Storia e leggende, Aviazione militare
The biggest aircraft the Axis powers ever built was not a bomber or a transport — it was a flying boat the size of a small ship, hauled into the air on six engines by a company that normally built ocean liners. And when an American fighter pilot finally sank it...
Storia e leggende, Aviazione militare
On 30 April 1958, a gleaming four-engined jet was rolled out of a hangar in Dresden to great fanfare. It was called the 152, and it was meant to announce East Germany’s arrival as a builder of modern airliners — a socialist answer to the Comet and the...

Storia e leggende, Aviazione militare
On Christmas Eve 1944, American troops dug in near Liège heard something wrong in the sky. Not the familiar growl of piston engines, but a smooth, piercing roar. Sleek aircraft swept overhead, dropped their bombs, and simply accelerated away. No Allied fighter...
Storia e leggende, Aviazione militare
On the morning of 7 August 1945 — the day after Hiroshima — a small, silver twin-jet lifted off the runway at Kisarazu Naval Air Base. For about twenty minutes, Lieutenant Commander Susumu Takaoka flew Japan’s first jet aircraft, the Nakajima Kikka,...

On 6 July 2026, British Airways flight BA919 from Düsseldorf was on its initial approach to London Heathrow’s Runway 27L when the aircraft, an Airbus A320-232 registered G-EUUN, lost a piece of information most passengers never think about: reliable airspeed. An...
Storia e leggende, Aviazione militare
Storia e leggende, Aviazione militare
Some aircraft are remembered for a great victory. The Blackburn Firebrand is remembered for missing the war entirely. Conceived as a naval fighter, rebuilt as a torpedo carrier, and delivered only after the guns fell silent in 1945, it is one of British...
Storia e leggende, Aviazione militare
Storia e leggende, Aviazione militare
The Gloster Javelin was a first and a warning wrapped in one big delta wing. It was the Royal Air Force’s first purpose-built all-weather interceptor and Britain’s first delta-winged fighter — a genuinely modern machine for the early 1950s. It was...
Storia e leggende, Aviazione militare
Britain’s second jet fighter was, in part, made of wood. It had two tail booms instead of one fuselage, an engine that sat behind the pilot like a barrel, and a plywood nose that traced its ancestry straight back to the Mosquito. It looked improvised. It was...
