Thank you to every single crew member for their truly incredible service. As of today they have been at sea with no port call for 225 days continuously. As one sailor said on a news segment recently: “I have not set foot on land in 2026.” It is now time to bring them home.

Comment on The Drone Was Already Down by m https://migflug.com/jetflights/us-service-member-killed-iraq-iranian-drone-ordnance-disposal-2026/#comment-326458 Wed, 22 Jul 2026 18:24:56 +0000 https://migflug.com/jetflights/us-service-member-killed-iraq-iranian-drone-ordnance-disposal-2026/#comment-326458 I want to communicate something as a former EOD tech myself… this event has way too little information released and available to you, me, or the public to speculate whether it should have happened or not. Now whether we should be in the Iran situation, that is all opinion for whomever you want to listen to. 🙂

My two cents, the EOD angle. Controlled detonations (even completely within peaceful and perfect conditions) ALWAYS have the potential for deadly consequences from an ignorant non-EOD type crossing into the danger zone of a secured perimeter (because their was an unrealized gap) to unstable UXO conditions. I have seen all that happen as an EOD tech.

UXO inherently? It is designed to explode and now it was shot, fired, dropped and impacted without detonating. When it becomes UXO, it has had everything not function correctly which means any function could happen at any moment. In short, it is an angry inanimate object!

What can trigger the final link in the chain to detonation? Sunshine, shade, winter, summer, water, rust, chemical degradation, vibration, and the list goes on!

Look up FUDS (Formerly Used Defense Sites) and look at how many sites have UXO present all over the United States. And every UXO item possesses the potential to detonate at any moment whether the UXO just landed there or it was 80 years ago. Japan airport from a couple of years ago randomly had an unknown buried 500 lbs. WWII era bomb suddenly detonate out within the runway areas with no known human triggered interaction.

My point? Controlled detonations happen everyday. Even with careful planning, there is no guarantee Murphy’s law will not bite you in the @$$.

OR maybe I’m wrong. 🙂

Have a great day.
